One of the major mountain ranges in the central part of the Republic of Macedonia, Jakuprica is most easily identified by its highest peak, Solunska Glava, which stands at 2,540 meters above seal level. The other major peaks on the mountain range include Karadzica, at 2,473 meters above sea level, Popovo Brdo, at 2,380 meters, and Ubava, Ostar Vrv and Dautica, all at more than two thousand meters above sea level each.

The mountain range is most easily approached from Macedonia's capital city Skopje, though you can also make it fairly easily to Jakuprica from the smaller town of Veles and various other small villages in the area. The mountain is so prevalent a piece of the Macedonian landscape that, on clear days, you can even see the Solunska Glava peak from the city of Thessaloniki all the way over in Aegean Macedonia. The name of the peak, in fact, comes from the words Solun, meaning Thessaloniki and Glava meaning Head, so the peak's name is actually The Head of Thessaloniki.
