The Saat Kula is the clock tower in Skopje is an important piece of architecture for the area. Constructed in the 16th century the clock tower is believed to be the oldest of its kind in Macedonia and Turkey. This tower was constructed by the Turk rulers of the time who brought in the clock mechanism from Hungary. The tower is a unique style compared to the other buildings constructed during that time with a hexagonal foundation and a roof resembling the Russian medieval architecture. A new clock was brought in during the early 1900s from Switzerland.
