The Museum of Contemporary Art is located in the capital of Macedonia, Skopje. As the capital of this country, the need for a facility featuring art and culture was recognized and for the past several decades has been the center in Macedonia. It was not until the earthquake of 1963 which devastated much of Macedonia and destroyed large areas of Skopje that the idea for such a museum came into being. While rebuilding the city, officials came together and asked the world to help redevelop the entire city and country. In doing such, the Museum of Contemporary Art was born.

The building opened in 1970 with the goal to promote, discover, and spread art and culture to residents and visitors of Macedonia. Today, the Museum of Contemporary Art has an impressive collection of well over 4,500 exhibits of internationally renowned artists and locally famous artists. The education program located here is aimed at showing the rich history of the country and its role in world politics. The Museum of Contemporary Art is worth the visit for anyone with a love for art.
