The Varos Monastery Complex is an impressive display of historical and archeological monuments dating from various time periods including the Bronze Age, the Iron Age, and the Roman Period. The Necropolis ruins and the several churches from the medieval ages are a favorite among visitors to the complex. The Church of St. Nikola was constructed in 1299 and is considered one of the most important masterpieces of Macedonia; also the Church of St. Dimitrija is loved for its preserved edifices dating from the 15th century.
The Varos Monastery Complex was built within the walls of Marko’s towers during the later part of the 12th century. The Inns located in the Monastery were added in the 19th century.
