With the total area of more than 20 hectares, the Melaka Zoo is more than enough to house the rarest and the best of animals in the country. The zoo has emulated the actual environment of the animals so that they can live in good conditions. As of this writing there are more than 300 species of mammals, birds and reptiles. Part of the Melaka Zoo was also dedicated to conservation of the rare animals and research. Kids and adults will also learn a thing or two about the animals as the Zoo also features an educational center.
The most popular attraction of the zoo is the Safari. Opened November in 2000, visitors of the safari should be able to get a closer view of animals as they are placed on an elevated platform. Watching these animals up close is one of the best things to do in Melaka. Although they are close enough, they are very safe from the wild animals who free roam the area. Watching free roaming animals is one of the most remarkable sights of Melaka.
