One of the recommended things to do in Melaka is to visit the Cheng Hoon Teng Temple. This temple was built during mid 1600s by the leader of the Chinese community in Melaka, Kapitan China Lee Wei King. To keep its authenticity, Chinese builders where brought from mainland China to help in the construction of the said temple. Even the materials came from the same country for authenticity. The temple is dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy. However, Lee Wei has dedicated this temple not only to one religion but to three beliefs: Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism.

The total area of the Temple is more than 4,000 square meters which is bigger than most temples. Compared to other temples that were built during that time, it is the only one that has survived until today. The Cheng Hoon Teng Temple is the oldest fully functional temple not only in Malaysia but in Southeast Asia. This temple is more than just simple religious structure but it is a symbol of the coming together of different religions becoming one of the Melaka attractions.
