The Kampung Kling Mosque was built in 1748 which makes it one of the oldest mosques in the country. It was believed that the mosque was built on the same place where Indian traders prayed when they first arrived in Malaysia. The structure of the mosque is unique – instead of using the traditional dome, Kampung Kling Mosque features a Sumatran type of architecture. The roof of the mosque looks like a pyramid which is divided into three parts. In the grounds of the mosque you’ll also find a tower which actually looks like a small pagoda, only elevated. Looking at the pagoda tower, you'll realize it's one of the remarkable sights of Melaka.
The mosque is off limits to non-Muslims. However, the walls of the Mosque are low so that you can practically take a picture of the mosque and the tower with no problem. Be sure to take a picture of this unique mosque as it has been here for centuries which has practically become a symbol for the locals and among the the Melaka attractions.
