The Proclamation of Independence Memorial is actually a building built in 1912 to commemorate the country’s independence. The structure, used to be called the Melacca Club which was used by the locals for recreation. The structure was formally established as the Proclamation of Independence Memorial in 1985. It was specifically chosen because of its location. It is located in front of the open space where the country’s independence was proclaimed in Melaka.
