Hotels in Penang
Penang is a state and an island in Malaysia, which is divided into two sections, one located on the mainland, while the other is the island itself. Though its a small state, tourism in Penang is booming, thanks to the huge variety of Penang attractions. Many tourists visit Penang for its spectacular beaches, and most are directed towards the island part of the state. If youre looking for fun in the sun during a weekend in Penang, head to the beaches of Batu Feringghi or Tanjung Bungha. The latter beach is located close to the states capital city of Georgetown, where tourists enjoy some of the best shopping in Penang. If you want to experience Penang culture up close, be sure to attend some of the many events and festivities that go on throughout the year in the state; Wesak day, for example, involves a night-long Buddhist procession with floats and flowers. Finally, there are a number of historical, artistic and cultural Penang sights, scattered throughout the cities of the province. One of the most interesting things to do in Penang is to visit the Snake Temple, located in the town of Bayan Lepas. The temple was built as a Buddhist place of worship and is now filled with snakes, which have been devenomed (though locals claim incense renders them harmless).
