The Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion was built at the later stage of the 19th century. Named after the original owner, the mansion features more than just simple architecture. The owner actually commissioned Chinese builders to design and build the structure. He spent considerable amounts of money to ensure that the building was constructed to reflect his wealth. The mansion was also built according to Feng Shui principles so experts in this art come here to enjoy the beauty of the structure.
Because it was more than a century old, considerable reconstruction has to be done to this structure to be part of Penang tourism. But it was well worth it as the reconstruction has practically renewed the phase of the structure. It was eventually awarded in 2000 by UNESCO because of its careful restoration. Currently, the Mansion is open to the public as it is also a hotel. Spanning more than 3,000 square meters, a visit to this structure is one of the recommended things to do in Penang.
