The Khoo Kongsi is monumental area which is one of the well known Penang attractions. Built in 1906, the structure was commissioned by the Leong San Tong clan. The clan established this structure when they are basically the most well off clan in the land. They practically have their own government and educational system which were also under the common rule. The clan hired Chinese builders to authenticate the structure and ensuring its grandeur.

Until today, Khoo Kongsi still keeps its grandeur even though the power of the clan is now just symbolic. The main entrance is in the cannon street but you can practically enter through the beach front. There are more 60 structures that comprise the whole compound and some of these traditional homes were slightly restructured to be a shop. Even though you’re not interested in the traditional culture, you’ll find this place very fascinating as it has kept the structure for more than a century, becoming one of the top sights of Penang.
