Wat Chayamangkalaram is a very popular temple not only in Penang but in the whole country. This temple is primarily known for 180-foot long gold plated statue of the Reclining Buddha. The statue is housed in the center of the structure which can practically be accessed by anyone for free. Because of this statue, the temple is also known as the “Temple of the Reclining Buddha”. But even before you enter the temple; the temple already offers picturesque sight of Penang as the structure has the traditional colors that features traditional Thai design.
At the back of the temple is a village being served by the temple. Locals are fortunate to have this as their place of worship as it provides all the things they need religiously. To gain access to the temple, tourists and locals have to dress appropriately.
