Cirkewwa Hotels and Accommodation
Cirkewwa is a harbor situated on the northern tip of Malta Island, which looks out towards the sister islands of Gozo and Comino in the Mediterranean. The main attraction of the village is for those with an interest in scuba diving, and Cirkewwa is home to a number of diving centers. With underwater caves, tunnels and cliffs and a variety of wrecks to negotiate, the area is one of the most visited diving sites on the Maltese Islands. The fact that some of the sunken boats were placed there intentionally to attract tourists, seems to take nothing from the experience. Popeye Village, located at Anchor Bay, just a kilometer west of Mellieha Bay, is an enchanting world created by the film industry which will fascinate adults and children alike. The village, created by Paramount Pictures and Walt Disney Productions for the filming of a Popeye adventure movie, took 165 workmen seven months to build. Nineteen wooden buildings make up Sweethaven, as the village was called, and include a hotel, church, post office, store, schoolhouse and, of course, a number of sailors’ taverns.
