Tucked far into the Mediterranean on the island of Malta, is the National War Museum in St. Elmo. This country will always attract tourists, because it has such a rich tropical climate and equally rich history and diverse culture. One of the best examples is the National War Museum. This museum is a notable example of Malta’s role in the Second World War and the period of time Malta spent under the rule of Britain.

At the museum one can view photographic panels painting of the hardships, living conditions during, and damage caused by the War. Other exhibits include a Bofors anti-aircraft gun, an Italian E-Boat, and the George Cross awarded to Malta by King George VI. Also on display are various awards and medals earned by Maltese servicemen playing major roles in the Second World War. For all these reasons and more, Malta is aptly nicknamed The Fortress Island.
