The Old Prison in Gozo, overlooks Cathedral Square in the Citadel, and is across from the Law Courts. Originally, they were connected, but now, consists of two sections. There is an entrance hall that served as a common holding cell, and a block containing six individual cells.

The old prison was in use from the mid16th century until the beginning of the 20th century. The Knights of St John used it as a place to put their rowdiest members as a cooling down place. There is a permanent exhibition at the Old Prison of fortifications in the front entrance hall. The cells are located by a courtyard that served the whole prison, and are well preserved in their original states. Interestingly, the cells and corridors have walls rich with graffiti that has been painstakingly preserved and is considered the biggest single collection of historical graffiti.
