Alameda Central Mexico City

Mexico City’s largest downtown park, Alameda Central is surrounded by a lot of the most intriguing buildings and museums in all of Mexico City. The park was created in the late 16th century by Viceroy Luis de Velasco to allow for families and people to congegrate at a sort of social gathering site, for which it is still used today, especially on Sundays, after church, thanks to the nearby cathedrals and churches. The park actually took its name from the alamos (poplars) planted throughout the park.
