Diego Rivera, born Diego Maria de la Concepcion Juan Nepomuceno Estanislao de la Rivera y Barrientos Acosta y Rodriguez in Gunajuato City, husband to Frida Kahlo and legendary Mexican painter, started the Mexican Mural Renaissance almost single handedly, and was a key figure in Mexican social politics, introducing much of the country to Marxism. Throughout the entire country of Mexico, you can easily find his work on display, quite proudly. His work adorns the President’s palace, various chapels and cathedrals, and several places in the United States, as well.

Museo Mural Diego Rivera is one of the largest collections of murals by Diego Rivera in one place and available to the public. Admission is a mere $1.50 US, though free on Sundays. One of the centerpieces here is Rivera’s most well known mural, Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in Alameda Park, painted on a hotel wall in 1947, the hotel was demolished after an earthquake in the mid eighties, but this painting was salvaged and transferred to the museum in 1986.
