Durango Hotels and Accommodation
Durango is one of the states of Mexico. It has the second lowest population density of any other Mexican state. The state capital is the city of Durango. If you are staying in a discount hotel in Durango, you will be able to see the Sierra Madre in the distance, but the land around the city is flat. The exception is a pair of hills, Cero del Mercado and Cero de los Remidios, between which the city lies. There is an excellent view from Cero de los Remidios.
Most of Durango’s most interesting sites are in the downtown area, on or near the Plaza Principal. The Baroque cathedral is a typical Mexican church, with a magnificent front overlooking the plaza. The Profiriano Teatro Ricardo Castro is a grandiose building with an elegant interior, complete with marble floors and crystal chandeliers. The Palacio de Gobierno was once a Spanish millionaire’s home. It is now decorated with works by local artists. If you’re a fan of movies, particularly Westerns, you’ll enjoy the Museo de Cine. It pays tribute to films made in the Durango area. Over a hundred Westerns were made here. If you have children, they’d probably like to spend some time in Parque Guadiana on the slope of Cerro de los Remedios. It has a playground and a miniature train.
