The Gulf of Mexico’s American coast has many exciting cities. The largest community on the Texas section of the coast is Houston. This is a great place to come for a vacation or even just a weekend. The city is actually 82 kilometers (51 miles) from the Gulf, but is connected by the Ship Channel. Visitors in Houston will want to see Bayou Bend, the 28-room-mansion that is now an art gallery. Among the many other things to see are the Houston Police Academy Museum, the Anheuser-Busch Brewery (2 free beers to guests 21 or older), and historic Allen’s Landing. For a quiet break, take a stroll or a boat ride in the Armand Bayou Nature Center.
