Tivat is a small municipality on the Bay of Kotor in the southwestern part of Montenegro. Its administration center is the town of Tivat, with a population of about 9500 people. Today visitors come to Tivat for the lovely weather and the beautiful beaches. One of the best is Przno Beach, which has four kilometers (2.5 miles) of promenades, and crystal clear water. One of the most impressive attractions is the Buca Summer House in the center of Tivat. This is a Renaissance complex with a few Late Gothic details. It is actually made up of five buildings surrounded by a wall. It is now used as a gallery, gardens, and open air theater. Mala Gruda, a tomb which dates back to the Bronze Age, is the most significant archaeological site in the country. Among the priceless artifacts found here are a golden dagger, a silver axe, and golden decorations for diadems. For those who love hiking, there is Vrmac, the hill above Tivat. Walking paths take you up to picturesque villages with gorgeous views. About ten miles from your budget hotel in Tivat is the old Vrmac Fortress.
