One of the visual hallmarks of Morocco would be the suuqs, the narrow, covered alleyways where one can escape the heat, taking cool detours over sweaty shortcuts. Some of the suuqs also play host to various small shops, cafes, markets and other services. In Marakesh, you can find small shops where lambswool is dyed by dedicated craftsmen. Visitors here will be immediately entranced by the variety wools, dyed beautiful, striking primary colors.
The shop is easily identified by the dying tub, filled with boiling hot water and spilling over with various colors as the workers dip the lambswool in the dye. The shops can get incredibly hot, especially in the often-harsh Morocco sun, with steam bursting from the dyeing tub creating a humid, even swampy environment. It's partly for this reason that lots of wool dyers choose to set up shop in the relatively cool suuqs and Marakesh is just one of many cities where you'll find these workers doing just that.
