"Happy with the hotel, but not sure about Marrakech"
The hotel was very good for the price we paid, but not 5 star. I have no major complaints regarding the hotel, but some advice about Morocco:Things we would do differently next time are:(1) Choose a different destination:Marrakech is, based on our experience, a place where conmen and beggars are the norm, not the exception. As a tourist in Morocco, you can expect people to hassle you persistently, and to try all manner of tricks to diddle money out of you. You are probably reading this thinking that it can't be that bad and that you are smart enough not to let it happen to you, but you are wrong. It can become quite unpleasant and stressful, and my girlfriend was in tears about it at one point (it was her birthday and our last day, and she was determined not to get conned that day, but she failed to achieve that objective due to a nasty local). If you do decide to go to Marakech, please learn the following magic words (not correct spelling, but how they sound in English): "la shookran", which means "no, thank you", and "sa fe barack", which means "finished with you". If you need to get rid of a Moroccan who is after your cash, use the first phrase first, and reserve the second phrase for the difficult, persistent and/or aggressive ones. LEARN THESE WORDS!!(2) Choose a different location:My impression is that the worst problem is in the old town, particularly around the souks and main square, which is precisely where our hotel was located. You may have a slightly better experience in the new town, although probably not that much better.(3) Trust nobody:If someone appears to be being nice to you, asking you where you're from, whether you need help finding some place, whether you would like a free biscuit, etc., just say LA SHOOKRAN. Do not trust them. They are after your money. Do not follow them. In fact, do not follow anyone. They are virtually all dodgy. (Note:- although I inserted the word "virtually" in my previous sentence, the sentence would probably have been fine if I had not included that word.)
