The Maputo Elephant Reserve is one of the most celebrated attractions in the city of Maputo in Mozambique. Located right on the southern swamplands of the city, the 236,000-hectare elephant reserve is a place where you can see gently rolling hills meet the sea.

Aside from the more than 200 elephants that can be found in the reserve, you will also get to see hippopotamuses, crocodiles, antelopes and side-striped jackals there. Plans are also underway to add more animals to the reserve to make it one of the major attractions in Maputo. There are many visitors who fly in directly to the reserve from the airport, and there are also others who drive there using 4x4 vehicles. The Elephant Reserve offers a pleasant morning drive experience because this is the time when the animals are roaming around. During the hottest parts of the day, these animals usually hide in shady thickets. If you want to stop some place for a picnic, try doing it at Lake Mundi. You should bear in mind that you must not swim in the lake's waters as there are crocodiles living there.
