Money is probably one of the most important things that people need in the world. As such, it can be expected that museums presenting money or currency collections are among the most fascinating and commonly visited attractions anywhere in the world. One of these museums is the Museu da Moeda or the Money or Currency Museum, which is one of the major contributors to Maputo's tourism.

Also known as the Casa Amarela or the Yellow House, the museum is regarded as the oldest building in Maputo that is still standing and in use. A classic example of Moorish architecture, the structure has been very well restored to its original glory, thus attracting its share of visitors that contribute to the tourism of Maputo. The museum is open from Tuesdays to Thursdays and on Saturdays, and its displays depict the different usage of currencies from the ancient eras to the present day. The rich history of the currencies' origin is also shown in the museum.
