 "Excellent hotel"
Very friendly efficient staff. Excellent location and the whole of Amsterdam is within walking distance provided you are not too frail. Beautiful rooms and original art throughout. Champagne breakfast on our anniversery was well worth the fairly reasonable expense.

"Really lovely, apart from the conversations you can hear from next door"
Great hotel, but the walls are a little too thin - we could hear the American girl next door having a loud and long Skype conversation deep into the night. No doubt most guests don't have that specific complaint though. I'd happily risk another stay. The staff were very helpful and the view from our room was superb.

 "Excellent location"
The service and location of this hotel are both excellent. Our room, however, was extremely small and out of proportion to what appeared to be a recently renovated, but well equipped bathroom. We found found hairs in the bathtub and after using our wine glasses on the first night, the dirty glasses remained there for the reminder of our stay.Having to leave the key at reception each time you head out as well as using it to open the minibar each time was also an irritation. On the positive side, the hotel has bags of character. Our travel companions' room was also much larger than ours; probably a reflection of the fact this property is made up of no less than 7 adjoined houses.I would suggest there are other hotels in Amsterdam which represent better value for money, but I wouldn't rule out using the Ambassade in the future if I could gaurantee a larger room.

"The ambassade hotel was a delight to stay in"
Pros: The ambassade hotel was a delight to stay in. our bed was huge and luxurious and the room was beautifully decorated. the large well equipped bathroom with a rainfall shower was really nice. the service was impeccible and the staff spoke perfect english and were extremely helpful. i cannot fault the service in any way
Cons: There was not much negative to say. the hairdryers were fairly weak, and irons were not available in the rooms- you had to go to an ironing room. but these are very small things in an overall excellent stay

"The staff at this hotel were very welcoming and are all very friendly and..."
Pros: The staff at this hotel were very welcoming and are all very friendly and helpful. the hotel is in a good location and most sites are within walking distance.
Cons: The air conditioning in the rooms was not very effective and we found the room too hot. you get a bottle of water each on arrival in your room but if you stay more than one night this is not replenished. for 245€ a night (no breakfast) i would expect to have water available. although the hotel has 24hr room service, there is no bar, no vending machine and no shop nearby and therefore i think that a bottle of water should be supplied with the room.

"This beautiful, recently refurbished hotel in a series of 18th century..."
Pros: This beautiful, recently refurbished hotel in a series of 18th century canal houses is located on a beautiful section of the herengracht (gentleman's canal), within walking distance of all the major sights. there is also a nearby tram stop that services the three trams most useful to tourists. the hotel staff is very friendly, capable and most helpful. the massage center is open late and i got a great massage that made my feet and legs feel like new after a week of river cruising and walking tours. the ultra-modern bathrooms are luxurious and roomy by european standards. loved the rain shower!
Cons: The restaurant is only open for breakfast, which is expensive (however, room service is available 24 hours a day). rooms in the front, with the canal view, can be noisy at night when local youth take to their boats to cruise the canals; this usually doesn't go on past 11 o'clock however. the combination tub/shower has high sides and could be difficult for some people, such as the elderly, to get into and out of.

"- best hotel staff ever; friendly, service minded, helpful etc! -..."
Pros: - best hotel staff ever; friendly, service minded, helpful etc!
- fantastic location!
- beautiful hotel room with a very nice and big bathroom
Cons: - the champagne breakfast seemed like it had been prepared the evening before instead of the same morning; the cheese was dry, the cream for the coffee seemed to be expired etc...
- quite expensive room rate.

Cons: Well, the renovation did give me early morning wake-up calls
that were a bit startling.

"Very nice breakfast in elegant settings, with canal view"
Pros: Very nice breakfast in elegant settings, with canal view. really enjoyable.
Cons: One restriction: although my son and i paid the same price, i was awarded (privilege of age i suppose) a large, comfortable room with superb canal view, while his was much smaller, with no view. surprising and regrettable.

 "Wonderful location"
Pros: Wonderful location. we had a deluxe room looking over the singel canal at the rear. lovely room and very attractive breakfast room and lounge
Cons: We found that breakfast staff did not clear the table between courses so that the table became increasingly cluttered. waiters would deliver a new hot dish but leave dirty dishes from previous courses (e.g.l fruit salad or cereal) on the table. the tap water in room 91 was very hot in the shower and basin but not hot enough in the bath.
