 "Ideal"
Brilliantly situated next to the canal near the hustle and the bustle of the city but quiet enough not to be disturbed (at least in our room which was at the back of the hotel). Steep stairs which made gettting a suitcase up three floors a good work out.Breakfast whilst plentiful was nothing special - tinned peaches each morning could have been varied with perhaps tinned grapefruit or pineapple. Freash fruit was also available but again limited choice. Water for tea was lukewarm on our last two days.Staff were friendly but we rarely saw the same person twice and some were more informative than others. TIP: from the airport catch the 197 bus to the bus terminal which is about 5 minutes from the hotel, do not catch the train and tram as the hotel guide suggests - bus is cheaper and much quicker.

 "City break in Amsterdam"
Really nice hotel with helpful staff. Great location on junction of two canals. Limited selection for breakfast but perfectly adequate. No lift and steep stairs to some rooms might be a problem for some. Would use this hotel again.

"Lovely place to stay with friendly helpful staff"
The Wiechmann is a quirky hotel, and suits Amsterdam beautifully. The interior is decorated with a range of antiques and objets d'art. The desk staff were friendly and very helpful, and for me, the presence of the dog, gave it a homely feel. The room was at the top of a very steep set of stairs, which were fine for us, but could be difficult for some people. Breakfast was good and there was plenty of it. We did not have tea and coffee making facilities in our room, and this is one thing missing that I would have liked. I would recommend this hotel to others.

 "Very good hotel"
My wife and I had a short break in Amsterdam in July. I had read the tripadviser comments and knew that there is no lift and steep stairs. As my wife has difficulty walking, I requested a first floor room and that is what we got, so a very good start. The room was small but perfectly adequate, clean and served the purpose. The breakfast was fine with a good selection of foods. The staff on the desk were fantastic, friendly, knowlegeable and helpful. Finally, the best thing about the hotel is without doubt a wonderful historic building in a really great location. Excellent value for money so I would go again.

 "Excellent position"
We chose rooms with canal view and were located don the 2nd floor over the breakfast room on the corner of this quaint building. Our friends were above us with a similar room on the 3rd floor. Linen was clean and room nicely appointed with a couple of easy chairs and a table to sit at. Large wardrobe and dressing table. Good reading lights at bedside. Very nice bathroom, bath with shower over and excellent sliding shower doors. Lots of hot water whenever needed. Brakfast available 7-10 (and until 11 at weekends) which was very good for us.Staff helpful and spoke good English. Luggage kept for us until we left several hours after check out time of 11 am.I would go back to this Hotel and it is located perfectly for visiting the canals and surrounding landmarks.

 "A Nice Hotel"
A nice, friendly hotel but beware the 4th floor and 66 stairs No elevator! There seemed to be a multitude of differing staff at reception - but perhaps they're all family! Good location. Recommended..

 "Nothing special, average"
We had a late evening arrival. The entrance door was closed. We rang as it was signed on a message board. 4 or 5 minutes of waiting, they were let us in.The location is perfect, easy to get to anywhere by foot. And if you take a skooter its a piece of cake. The breakfast (dining) room is spacious and very bright because of the huge windows. The room was all right, not much space, but we're in Amsterdam. But the bed was so uncomfortable, and got separated beds next to one to the other instead of a twin bed. The breakfast wasn't various. Below average. But you can handle it of good bakeries nearby.Amsterdam is 5 stars, but Hotel Wiechmann just below 3.

 "Nice hotel close to everything"
Hotel is very lovely in old Amsterdam house with canal view. Close to everything sights, shopping, night life. Is good value for money if you look for just to sleep and nothing fancy. Room was small but clean everything I needed. Breakfast was included which was nice and good. Lovely breakfast room with canal view. You need to be in good condition to walk up the steep stairs no elevator. But in overall much better what I expected. Recommend.

 "Great value for money"
Hotel Wiechmann is a cracking little hotel in one of the best areas of Amsterdam. It was quiet and in a great location for tourist attractions. My only complaint would be the incredibly lumpy pillow and blankets instead of quilts on the beds - just not the most comfortable nights sleep.

 "Charming Hotel"
The hotel was charming, clean, comfortable and full of old world atmosphere. The service was great-people were friendly and helpful. I loved the location-right on the canal with a beautiful view of the canal and old houses. My room was a bit small and simple, but I had asked for a single room. I hope to return soon!

 "Early spring in Amsterdam"
The Wiechmann Hotel is superbly placed for a week's break in Amsterdam. The main museums are only a short walk away - as is the central station - so getting around is easy from this base. The local restaurants provide an excellent variety of meals - and very good beers. I shall definitely be booking a return visit.

 "Nearly perfect!!"
Everyone in Amsterdam who heard I was staying at the Wiechmann commented on what a great place it was! I couldn't agree more. Central location, wonderful people (especially Natta & Bart Jan, who went out of their way to help in every way), delicious breakfast. The room was exactly right with everything I could need. The cleaning staff did a beautiful job. A wonderful surprise was that they even have a computer room with 2 computers for guest use! Taz the dog is a gentle giant; when I arrived I put my hand out for her to smell and she licked it! I've seen many complaints about the stairway; well, if you stay in Amsterdam you will have a narrow spiral stairway nearly wherever you stay! These are old buildings, probably historic locations, and there's nothing the hotel owners can do about it. The staff will carry your bags up and down for you and there are railings on both sides of the stairs. I had no problems with them.My ONLY complaint, which is more of a suggestion than a complaint, is that I feel there should be a way to purchase a sandwich or snack of some kind in the evening. There is coffee, tea, cocoa and liquor (hot drinks free) available from noon until the next a.m., which is great, but there were some days I was just too exhausted to go out again for dinner, so this would be a nice addition. The staff is multilingual; whatever language you speak they do too. The shuttle to and from the airport is an easy, convenient and inexpensive way for coming and going. John, a grandson of the hotel founder, and will be sure your stay is perfect. STAY THERE! You won't regret it.

 "Wiechmann Hotel"
We all really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It gave us an insight into what houses are like in Amsterdam with their narrow steep stairs and warren like rooms. The room was an excellent size for all four of us; lots of room to lounge and prepare for the next outing. Our seven year old son loved watching tv in the lounge area even though he cannot speak Dutch but we suspect the little Easter eggs were the big draw! The breakfast was added to by the amazing sight of cyclists of all ages, passing by on their way to work or play! Service was very good and pleasant. The location of the hotel is great as it was well placed for walking to any of the major attractions that the city has to offer. There are many great cafes and restaurants located nearby, we enjoyed wonderful meals everyday.

 "Great stay!"
I stayed four nights at Hotel Wiechmann, a mixture of business and pleasure. The location is perfect, staff very friendly, rooms quiet and comfortable and spotlessly clean. Great to have free Wifi throughout.

 "Lovely hotel for our anniversary"
Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in March for our 29th wedding anniversary. Hotel is perfectly situated in the centre of town, within easy walking distance of sights of Amsterdam. The view of the canal from our window was wonderful. Room was comfortable , the breakfast was just right. Top marks! Would highly recommend.

"Excellent Hotel, will be coming back"
What won me over with this hotel was the wonderful staff, who made me feel welcome from the very beginning. The hotel is set on a canal in a lovely part of Amsterdam, a place where you can turn one way and walk to the attractions and the other way to avoid tourists. My room wasn't fitted with a fridge or kettle, but the building is historic with 1930s furniture, very comfy bed (big enough for my 6'4 partner) and amazing shower. There is a beautiful resident dog and breakfast is in a gorgeous light filled room filled with antiques and served till 11.

 "Gem of a hotel"
Great little hotel, quaint with lots of amazing antiques, modern plumbing, and comfy beds. The owners/staff were warm, friendly and helpful. Excellent location, right on a canal and walking distance to everywhere. Highly recommend and would come back in a heartbeat.

 "Great location"
Location is great with great view of the canal from our balcony, this was the highlight of the hotel. Not too keen on having to carry our luggage up three flights of very steep stairs though, as there is no elevator. Breakfast basic, but nice enough. Staff all very helpful. Guests provided with a key to room and reception to enter/exit when they wish. Room basic and small, and a modernisation of decor and beds wouldn't hurt. Loved the location!

 "Good value hotel"
This is a very reasonably priced, mid-budget hotel in a great location (walkable everywhere) which is very quiet. The decor is a bit tired but it was perfectly comfortable. Definitely recommended for a comfortable stay in Amsterdam.

 "Love the Wiechmann!!"
We don't like to stay in big chain hotels, so this was a perfect choice for us. I believe we were on the most interesting canal, the staff (including the dog Taz) is very helpful and friendly, and the hotel has a lot of character. Fortunetly, we travel light, as the stairs would be a problem for anyone with very heavy luggage or if you are not able to climb them due to bad knees or hips. If we could have stayed a couple of more days, we would be in great shape (we were on the 3rd floor). We arrived in the very early a.m., and would say that unless you know exactly where you are going, take a taxi from the airport. We took the tram to the stop we were told to take, but had no idea of where to go from there. At that hour, there aren't taxi's just driving around and shops weren't open to ask anyone. We probably walked around 1/2 hour before finding it. We were lucky and John had a great room available for us to check in right away.
