We reserved and received a canal view room (126). the room is very big by european standards. it is simply decorated and very clean. it has plenty of furniture such as table, chairs, night stands, and a large cupboard for clothe, so it is more than sufficient. there are three large windows facing the prisengracht canal which is a major canal, and there is so much to look at day and night - bikes, boats, shops, people, gables.... amsterdam is a city with lots of movements. canal view definitely is worth the extra money. breakfast is adequate with hard boiled eggs, cheeses, lunch meats, bread, toasts, spreads, juices, cereals, hot chocolate, different kinds of tea, & coffee. there are two computers (with internet) for guests to use without charge in a quiet computer room. this is a very kind touch considering many hotels in the city charge for internet. there are also plenty of well decorated, clean public spaces in the hotel for guests to use. you can clearly tell that the owner cares about his hotel and guests and is very service minded. the location of the hotel is great. we were able to get to all the places (central station, van gogh and rijksmuseum, dam sq., chinatown, portuguese synagogue, nemo, the flea markets, all the pleins, etc.) on foot and never used the tram or bus; again, there is so much to look at and explore in the city, so walking (if you can) is the best and be prepared to be sidetracked. hotel staff is also very helpful in pointing out directions.
The room can be stuffy at night, and opening the windows is not an option since the city makes its own noises.

A lovely clean traditional homely feel hotel, good breakfast. we had a room with a canal view which was brilliant, nice large room with antique furniture, lovely white tiled bathroom with plenty of hot water. location excellent. would stay at this hotel again.
If i had to be picky, there isn't a lift and our room was on the third floor, the staircase is very steep and narrow, hard work to carry heavy bags up the stairs, but this is typicall of a traditional dutch house.

Stairs are steep!ask for a room on the first floor if you are carrying heavy luggage. no a/c in rooms. i was in a top-floor room, just under the roof - very hot. the fan didn't make it any better :(

Had difficulty finding the room which was on the third floor of the third building. we had to go up steep steps that curved which was difficult with our luggage. staff did not assist us to the correct building. over priced for the facility.

The common spaces are large and furnished attractively; the ambience is relaxed and very pleasant; the room was comfortable, with a canal view; the hotel is very quiet.
The breakfast could offer better breads and more fruit.

Great location, nice staff.
Mix up with rooms, not given the upgrade we asked for - it went to someone else and we never received the email that we were meant to get about it, and 2 of the rooms offered to us were flooded!

A very friendly greeting on arrival. good size room which was clean with a comfortable bed.
The disco which went on all night somewhere outside of the hotel on saturday and sunday night - a great pity as the room was otherwise very quiet as advertised. the proprietor has said he will get this stopped.as in all dutch canal houses the stairs are very steep, something to be taken into account for older or infirm travellers. also the side of the bath was very high and this had to be stepped over to enter the bath or use the shower- again something to consider if it may be a problem for you.

Great location and nice to stay in a quirky place with character. good bathroom and a fabulous breakfast.
Sadly there had been a mix up with our booking and the room intended for our stay had been given to someone else. bedroom was okay - rather tired looking but fine for a one night stay.
