This B&B is located in the historical city centre, next to 'Nieuwmarkt' with its many bars and restaurants.
Having a convenient position in the centre of Amsterdam, the Bed and Breakfast Fort Amsterdam is situated close to Amsterdam Central Station and only 5 minutes walking distance from the world famous Red Light District, Amsterdam's China Town and all major museums and attractions of Amsterdam. Also Dam Square is located within short walking distance from the B&B.
How to reach the Bed & Breakfast Fort Amsterdam?From Schiphol Airport: Train transport to and from Schiphol Airport is convenient, simple and fast, with the Schiphol train station located directly below the main lobby of the airport.
You can purchase domestic train tickets at the yellow ticket machines near the platforms at Schiphol Plaza as well as from the ticket offices near the red/white-checked cube at Schiphol Plaza. All tickets, unless when asked for a non-dated ticket, are for use on the day of purchase.
The average travel time to Amsterdam Central Station from Schiphol Airport, or vice versa, is 15 minutes. Be sure that you indeed take a train bound for Amsterdam Central Station (Centraal Station, or CS), as other stops, such as Amsterdam Lelylaan, Amsterdam Sloterdijk, may sound similar.
You will know when you have arrived at CS when you see historical church steeples and canals (e.g., the modern office park station is Sloterdijk). In theory, the conductors on all trains to and from Schiphol call out stations in Dutch, English and sometimes other languages.
From Central Station: Its a three minute walk to the B&B. Take the main station exit which brings you onto the station square. Turn left and walk along the station building (this is direction east); cross the open-air bus terminal area which brings you to a bridge on your right hand side. Cross this bridge and turn left (crossing a busy cycling path; watch out!). Walk straight towards the small tower in front of you. Turn right just before the small round medieval tower. Walk along the canal and you will find the B& on your right hand side at number 70.

Our stay was wonderful. barry was a wonderful host - there when you needed him (for info on the area etc) but left you to it throughout your stay. the room was clean, bed was comfortable and barry even organised a cake for my parteners 50th birthday. he also very kindly decorated the room with balloons to complete the surprise! location was two minutes from red light district and the nice thing was that we felt safe at all times. the b&b was a five minute walk from the railway station and the main sites of the city were all within walking distance. we will definately be returning if barry will have us.02 Oct 09

Friendly, welcoming. free to use kitchen and contents of fridge at all times. breakfasts were imaginative and good. high standard of housekeeping. i stayed there with my daughter and we loved the quiet ambience of the house.Careful negotiation of the staircase was necessary but i imagine it would be be same in any house in amsterdam and is not really meant as a negative comment.13 Jul 09

The b&b is perfectly placed next to a canal and very easy access to the city.Our views are that the b&b was overpriced considering the standard of accommodation. the accommodation overlooks a very noisy street at night lasting into the early hours of morning.09 Jun 09

Berry was the perfect host and more than helpful about the sites to see in the city as well as how to get there. he really went over and above what i would expect from hotel service and it really meant something special, especially as he made such a lovely surprise for my fiances birthday and it was my first time in amsterdam. the breakfast was excellent as well and i never ever felt that anything would be too much to ask. absolutely brilliant, would fully recommend this stay, especially at the price it is marketed at. i very much doubt ull find a better place to stay at amsterdam, regardless of what starred hotel it may be. We had the third floor apartment, on it was fantastic, clean, quite when windows shut, fantastic location, modern facilities in fact all the facilities you would ever need. highly recommended and would seriously go back there.Nothing negative at all.
