 "Perfect Location and Lovely Accomodations!"
This place went way beyond our expectations or a hostel. We were a group of 5 and booked a 6 person room. We did have quite a hike to our room at the very top, but it was not a big deal, really. Beautiful view from our room, comfortable beds, huge shower and paper towel machine in the toilet. It was a cute little circle room with views over Amsterdam and was very clean. The breakfast was great and they had a lot to choose from, breakfast sandwiches, hard or soft boiled eggs, meats and cheeses, fruit, yogurt, etc., so it is easy to find something you like. Also, there is 24 hour reception and they take safety and security very seriously, so no one will be getting your key/ into your room when you are away. Also a safe in the room and working wifi even at they way top. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great hotel right in the heart of the city. I will definately be booking City Hotel Hostel again if I find myself back in Amsterdam, as well!

 "Central, but Noisey location"
The hotel was friendly with OK service. We tried a continental breakfast which consisted of, three different types of bread (unable to toast), ham, cheese and salami. Their was supposed to be eggs available, however none on that day. We paid around 7.95 Euro's each for this and we felt that for a continental breakfast it was poor in quantity and selection, where we're the selection of pastries, eggs. The hotel is located just off Rembrandt square, which is full of bars, pubs and restaurants with great transport links to and from the area. This would be an ideal location if you planned to get drunk and go clubbing. The amenities in the area stay open late and we would often hear party goers until 05:30am with trams going past ringing their bells at all hours of the night. This hotel is more suited to a younger crowd or someone who has bought ear plugs.

 "Great Hotel"
The hotel was perfect for us (4 boys on a weekend away) the room was big and the beds were very comfortable. The staff were all very friendly and all spoke very good english. The location is very good, with bars and pubs less then a minutes walk away. Overall it is a very nice hotel and good value for money.

 "Awesome!"
I recently stayed here with my girlfriend. The double room was very clean and it included a private bathroom, where showers were always nice and warm with fresh towels provided daily. The staff are very friendly and were always willing to help and provide any information that we required. It is a very safe and secure place. It is located above a pub, 'old bell' which is very handy to pop in and have a drink. Also it is next door to 2 coffeeshops ( if that is something that would interest you, they are both really nice) Tram stop is directly outside the hotel and the supermarket is a short 5min walk.I will be visiting the Dam again next year (my 4th trip) and I will be booking this place to stay.A******** Mack, Ireland

"Manager should be sacked and everything would be sweet"
On arrival, scaffolding covered the hotel so we were 'upgraded' to a big apartment next door; very good. The room was clean and large with a couple of rooms which was nice. There were 2 safes in the room, neither worked. This was a necessity for us as we had very expensive electrical equipment with us that we did not want to carry around all day with us everywhere we went, or leave in a room with no CCTV and minimal security. On speaking with the 'manager' in reception, he was very unhelpful. He made me feel like it was MY problem that they had 'lost' the key to the safe and could therefore not open or unlock it for us to use. Begrudgingly, the guy finally offered us the room upstairs. The other option was to "leave our stuff at reception where we could gain access to it between the hours of 9am and 6pm only". Strange! The hot water in the new room cut out and showed a fault on the thermostat which the manager could not fix himself and wasn't too bothered about so we had to wait for a handyman to arrive at 9am the next day. The experience was over-all very good and the hotel is not bad at all. However in a customer service industry with a lot of competition, you cannot afford to compromise on customer-service, especially when your the manager!

 "I wouldn't recommend it"
. Room was what you would expect most of the staff were nice but we had a nightmare on the last day when they refused to let us in claiming our room did not exist. after 15 mins of trying to convince the senile old man on the desk to let me in i had to convince him that i was staying in the hotel by showing him my credit card id ect.... this did not work so i had to take the key from the desk myself and let my friends in that had been waiting outside for over an hour. There was no lock on the toilet door and no fan in the toilet. Also the total that i was asked to pay was 570gbp but for some reason unknown to me they charged 670 to my card?

 "Too many mice!"
The first problem encountered was on entry "Death by Stairs" if you think your fit, well try this with a hip replacement! These stairs were the better of 2 full-time aerobics/boxercise/karate champions so when I nearly passed out I welcomed it - lol. Though the staff were friendly and ever so helpful it didn't make up for the lack of....everything!! We had no kettle for the first 2 days, most of the towels were stained and the tea-towel looked like a outside floor cloth - ew!! The cleaner came and never cleaned - just changed towel and if she fancied the bin - daily towels were left on the dirty floor outside our rooms- now c'mon! Perhaps that were the stains came from? Our last nights included lost of screaming at the cheeky mice(s) that thought they had paid for the room. I stayed 4 days and left traumatised as I have musophobia. My friend and I spent the last 2 nights crying under the covers listening at all the scratching about the room. I will not be coming back!

 "Good location"
I stayed in this hotel with friends in a triple room, for what it was, it was expensive. The bathroom was not en suite but we had a separate key to the bahroom two doors down the corridor, we had to remember to take the key to and fro. There are no lifts and getting to the second level after a day out walking was exhausting! The rooms were clean and the hotel staff were friendly. The location is central which was good, however it does get noisy at night when the city finally comes alive! Thanks to my ear plugs!

 "Excellent!!"
I stayed here while traveling around Europe with friends. We are all college students and were looking for an inexpensive place to stay. The City Hotel exceeded our expectations! Beds were extremely comfortable and the service was great! Everything was very clean too. The location was perfect. I would definitely stay at the City Hotel again!

 "Cracking stay"
The room was basic but we were just looking for a central base.Beds were comfortable enough.Only thing lacking was a kettle - having to boil water on the hob in the morning was slightly tedious! I need my coffee in the morning!I would definitely use it again for a group of friends going out to party.

Pros: Incredibly friendly staff, great location and good quality.... been to amsterdam more than 20 times and have stayed in hostels, through to 5 stars.... for a group holiday, i will now, never stay anywhere else..... i will be back....
Cons: Perhaps a rule about noise of doors slamming by other guests...

"The 2 room apartment is just perfect for the 6 of us(2 adults, 2 youth and..."
Pros: The 2 room apartment is just perfect for the 6 of us(2 adults, 2 youth and 2 kids)the apartment is only a few doors from the actual hotel and coveniently located(rembrant) very near to restaurants, shops, entertainment. the only setback is the shower which can do better with higher pressure. about 8 minutes by tramp and 20 minutes walk from the central station. rooms in the apartment are all very clean, airy and bright. we also managed to prepare our breakfast of ham, bacon, eggs, bread and salad with the attached kitchen. my kids even voted this as the best of the hotels that we stayed over our trip to europe. opposite the apartment is an upmarket supermarket but i would not recommend it as its stocks are not to my liking and very expensive(can't find local beers there!!!!). would recommend to do your grocery at another very stock supermarket about 12 minutes walk (located behind a church). prices at this supermarket is very reasonable and you can get lots of stuff there. there are 2 tv but no wifi at apartment but guest can use the computer and assess to wifi at nearby hotel for free 24 hrs. the staffs at hotel are most friendly, helpful and ensure that all its guest are comfortable during their stay there. would like to specially thank the owners (dolch and daphne) who are the most friendly people that we have met during our trip, mr dolch is especially helpful, kind towards my family and very passionate in his work. he makes us very comfortable and accomodate our request to leave our luggages at the lobby till late in the evening(night train to zurich). we highly recommend this hotel/apartment to all and will definately stay in the same apartment if we ever revisit amsterdam.
