 "Can't complain"
I'm basing this review on the fact that in Amsterdam, more than in any other city, you pay a lot more for less, when it comes to hotels - so my "very good" rating means "very good for Amsterdam!" I had seen some dodgy reviews of this place, but the same could be said of all the hotels I looked at in my price range. I had stayed in a number of hotels there before ranging from awful to excellent. The hotel France comes near to the top when compared with the others. First of all - had a room on the top floor so it was very quiet, the air conditioning worked so the room was also comfortable - in Amsterdam, a hotel where you can get to sleep is the be all and end all! The cleanliness wasn't great, with weird looking stains all over the radiator, and a hairdryer cable that made me ill just to look at it, but the sheets were clean and fresh so again, compared with other hotels in this town - result! In summary, as long as I could get a room on the top floor, then I would definitely stay here again.

"Very Small but did the job"
stayed at the France hotel in November 2012 and we had room 306 which was perfect , so of course booked again to stay this year with a friend .... Disappointed :-( I paid more money per night this time , the first room they put us in didn't have a window ..... So asked to be moved , which was accommodated but the2nd room 304 was very very very small :-( and very grubby but we survived .... And must admit slept like babies ....I'm back in the dam in November again and I've not booked the France this time .... Sorry

 "Great location, safe and clean"
This hotel was in an ideal location, close to red light district and a 10 minute walk to dam square. Also a 5 minute walk from central station. Room was small but cosy, that's all you need while you are there. Breakfast each morning was a great bonus. Wifi also included. Only missing things were a kettle and fridge.

 "Excellent place, brilliant location"
10 minutes from Amsterdam CS (which is 15 by train from Schiphol), 5 from Red Light District (with some nice pubs!), 15 minutes from Dam square. Room is big enough, toilet & shower spacious, will definitely go back next trip to Amsterdam.

 "Nice location"
Nice location, easy to find and very connected to everything you would need.Room walls and doors are very thin, you can listen neighbors tv perfectly and when they close their door feels like someone is getting in your room. Same with room services.Breakfast is not in the hotel but in the close Irish Pub..

 "France Hotel"
Hotel was good value, breakfast was very good in the Irish Bar next door. Carpets in the hotel hallways could do with up -dating as they were fairly stained. The room was clean, but house keeping over do the air freshener. Staff were pleasant.

 "France Hotel stay"
The hotel was clean and basic. it was quiet. the breakfast was also good. The hotel is located in an interesting area and it was most convenient to the railway station and a good place to drop into after a long trip.

 "Right in the center"
This hotel is right in the center of Amsterdam. It was easy to walk around and to find always the way back. Parking near the hotel are really expensive (it's so overall), but hotel stuff provides a solution to cut off parking fees.

 "We were right.....it was okay"
Having read all the reviews before we booked and read that this was 'bed bug city' we emailed the manager and said we had booked on the proviso that we had the best double room, a good shower, a new bed and a window, as promised by the Manager replying to all the reviews. On arrival, Faoud on reception allowed me to go and look at the rooms he could allocate to us. The first room was two single beds joined together which makes a super kingsize.I examined the mattresses and they looked new. The decor was modern. There were two windows which did not throw much light as they were just light shaft down from the roof. The 2nd room was a smaller, same size beds, but a window. However the window was opaque, so no view anyway. We opted for the first room, 208 and it was fine. Bad points:Little bit noisy on the Saturday night with people going to bed late, or early in the morningBit dark in the roomOnly 10 rooms in the hotel have windows, but the majority of hotels in the centre are like thisTowels a little bit smallGood points:Location very central two minutes from great restaurants, coffee bars and red light district.Beds are very comfortableBed linen crisp and cleanShower was amazing powerful and very hotBreakfast, next door at Molly Malones, was excellent, served by a lovely guy from Perth,W.AWe paid £236 euros including tax for 3 nights inc breakfast. Our friends paid 350 euros for a small double room which had the tiniest bed and they could hardly get around the room.. and no breakfast. If you want somewhere which is good value, very central and don't mind not having a window..book now.
