How to reach the Hotel Continental?1) From Schiphol Airport: Every 20 minutes there is a train running from the airport to Amsterdam Central Station. When you arrive at the airport and you reach the central hall there is a big sign with the train information. The trains to the central station are running from 05:40 AM to 00:30 AM (go to step 2).
2) From Amsterdam Central Station: The hotel conveniently location, just a 5-minutes walk from Amsterdam Central Station. When you exit Amsterdam Central Station, walk parallel to the tram rails towards the 'Damrak' street. Enter this street and walk straight ahead towards Dam square. You will reach Hotel Continental after 300 meters.

People having a rant about the stairs and general things about this hotel need to relax. in amsterdam you must expect steep stairs, and for the price you cannot expect a palace. the staff were not unfriendly and there were no issues with anything during our stay.Tiny room with absolutely nothing in it (not even a drawer or shelf) and definitely not enough room for the two of us. bed was far too small and so old and run down that it sagged in the middle really badly.Anonymous

Perfect for a no-frills stopover in the city. if you don't plan to spend too much time in your room then this is perfect. you get your basic modcons, tv, clean sheets everyday, towels etc. wouldn't recommend for a romantic stay, but we were a group of 4 lads and it was perfect.

Staff pleasant and helpful. central location. easy to find from train station and once you begin exploring the cityRooms facing the street a noisy almost all hours but if you are single and happy to explore the city at all hours to works well. don't stay more tha 4 nights otherwise you won't get enough sleep.wong

Most of the comments here are true so we knew what to expect, the staff is nice and helpful, no hidden costs, located in central - everything is near, bit low budget equipment but probably still excellent value for money. Walls are thin so you have to make love quietly :))Anonymous

We got there and the location was great. we went upstairs and the room was great. we were three friends and there were three single beds with nice white linen/blankets, lots of windows, hardwood floors, a sink in our room. they had a policy of only giving room keys out for the purpose of going to your room. every time you went out, though, you handed the room key back. it was good for them, because it probably keeps a lot of keys from going missing. and it was good for our group because the three of us could go out and not have to worry about staying together or making meeting times because the key was always back at the hotel for whoever got back first.The shower and toilet were out in the hall in two separate rooms. that was fine, no big deal. never once had to wait for either, except for when someone else from my room was using them. the thing i found weird was the shower room, was exactly that. you opened the door, and you were already physically in the shower. they had a towel rack on the inside of the door, but considering the door was a wall of the shower, it made it hard to keep it from getting wet. at certain times of the day there was a weird smell in the hallway outside our room. the biggest complaint, though, would have to be one of my friends waking up with a whole bunch of red bites all over her. she did a little research just to be sure, but pretty obviously it was bed bugs. while there were three beds and three people and only one of us showed significant signs of bites, it was still unnerving. we didn't bother make a complaint, so can't say for sure how the staff would've handled. we chalked it up to the hotel being a budget hotel that wasn't all that clean and didn't have the clientèle pushing them to higher standards.Anonymous
