 "Worst hotel room in Amsterdam"
After deciding to forego the usual four star accommodation I am used to, I thought it would be a good idea to reduce my expenses for the benefit of my employers.Spending over 70 euros per night on this hotel room was the only downside of my otherwise successful business trip.I was placed on the fourth floor (no elevator, no porter) and receive the eaves attic room, possibly one third the size of any reasonable accommodation. Immediately apparent was the single bed was right under the eaves, meaning I had to crane my head to get into bed. What was worse was I have a very painful sciatica in my left leg and not being able to freely move around during the night meant hardly any sleep and lots of unnecessary pain. In case you are wondering, I had already been celebrating with clients and several beers, so painkillers were not an option. The bathroom shower tray needed scrubbing clean. The television was not viewable when lying down, so watching was only possible standing up. Night's sleep was also interrupted unnecessarily as each other room had very heavy doors but slammed shut very loudly. In all, appalling and I note that the friendly reception employee was very awkward and did not ask how my stay was.I will avoid this hotel like the plague and will ensure all Amsterdam review sites are made aware that this accommodation is appalling.

 "Beyond my Expectation"
So based on the above title, I was very apprehensive in booking this hotel due to the reviews other people left. Anyway, I had to book it because my friends were located near this one and theirs way fully booked. Right, so this hotel was given 2 stars and I genuinely wonder why despite certain luxuries that 4 or 5 star hotels provide. The corridors were clean, the rooms were absolutely perfect, toilets and shower were clean. I mean, if you're just wanting to go on a holiday to Dam without the luxuries (room service, tucks-in, an in-house restaurant to eat, play facilities for the kids, etc.) then this is your place without a doubt. Don't be fooled by other people's reviews. This hotel does the job and I will stay here again when I next visit Dam. Another thing, you couldn't ask for a better location - you're literally in the middle of it all.....I'm not joking. Hope this helps.

 "Average under all P.O.W."
Rooms were not very clean but still acceptable, found 2 small bugs. The location makes up for every flaw, it's walking distance from everything you may want to see in amsterdam.I'd give it a 7 out of 10 overall.

 "Could be a lot better"
Great location, shame about cleanliness. Staff were helpfull. No bother leaving bags etc for safe keeping. Stairs very steep, wouldn't be suitable for older guests. Room very compact & dark. Radiator hanging off wall, curtains and window very dirty. Bed was way to soft and very small.

 "Very basic"
Reception staff are very polite. Hotel itself isn't great to look at- stairs are very narrow and steep, layout is quite confusinng. The room was tiny, and our window looked straight into another room - so we kept the curtain closed which meant the room was always very dark. The bathroom was a walk in shower room - very small but the water was nice and hot and it was generally clean. The beds are not that comfy, and the pillows were really stained. The location is absolutely great. Its right in the centre and a two minute walk from Dam Square, and only a 5 minute walk to Centraal Station. Overall, its ok. Its perfect for a short trip in Amsterdam as you won't be spending much time in your room. We stayed for one night and I don't think I could have stayed another.I think its a little over priced - you can stay at a hostel with a private bathroom for much less money than Damrak Inn, and they are probably of the same standard.

"The hotel was situated in a very convenient place at the centre of..."
Pros: The hotel was situated in a very convenient place at the centre of amsterdam, dam square was literally at the end of the road, about a 2min walk and at the other end of the road was the station about a 5-7min walk away, also (this may also be a negative)the hotel was on top of a chip that just never seemed to close! which was good for the late nite snacks but sometimes ques of customers could get a little loud. the hotel receptionist (who may feature also in negatives) was overall quite polite in answering/dealing with our many questions/frustrations. the pillows (when in clean cases) were very comfortable.
Cons: Ok, so i really hate complaining! and i never really listen when people leave bad reviews and whine on about silly little things, but sadly with the negatives its hard to choose where to begin im afraid! when we arrived the hotel was close by to the station yet hard to locate as the shop below is completely vacant and there didnt seem to be any obvious sign unless you stood quite a way back on the pavement and looked directly at the street. when we got inside the room looked nothing like the pictures that were posted on the website and my boyfriend reminded me that if its too good to be true it usually isnt, the room was very cheap, and looked it. it was a bit grimey but my riends and i decided that with the massive window with all the sunshine the room didnt seem so bad; there was 6 of us in all and we also decided that although we didnt expect it, the bunk beds and the squeekiness of them were funny but then we checked the bedding and towels, which were pretty dirty. the bedding wasnt too bad i suppose, but the towels had actual stains which is never nice! and when we asked for them changed we were told we could only change 2 as there werent enough to change all 6. the next surprise was the bathroom, where for the first time i was treated to a sink so close i could wash by hands while sitting on the toilet if i wished (which i didnt!) where i could also start my shower as the nozzle was also only a arms length away, there was also only one mirror, a face one in the bathroom which doesnt work well with 6 women, and one roll of toilet paper which also doesnt work even if ot is only 4 days! there were also a few red stains on the pink walls which we all hoped was just ketchup! there was a very small wardrobe which wenever used because there was only one hanger, but now im just being picky. when we were leaving we were told there was no complimentary room 4 us to change in, but there was a cupboard to keep our bags which was located at the top of another long, winding set of very steep stairs so anyone with walking disabilites or vertigo i would suggest you book with someone else. all 6 of us were quite surprised that this hotel had 2star rating as we're not sure how, it was very cheap but we couldnt tell the difference between hotel damrak inn and hostels we've stayed in. the star rating and pictures were very misleading, we would'nt complain if we had known before what exactly to expect but i think the hotel took us by surprise, we didnt expect much but we did expect clean towels! i wouldnt recommend this as a hotel to anyone, but if your not to bothered i would say its an ok hostel. despite the grim room this did not ruin our trip, we didnt spend much time in it, and we wanted to enjoy our trip and not stress. i am writing this review just so that others are warned about what to expect, if we had realised before we wouldnt complain.
