 "Lovely hotel."
A lovely welcome greeted us on arrival from the extremely friendly staff. Our room was situated in the building opposite the main hotel. There were some very steep steps leading to all floors and no lift. this could be troublesome for some people. There is a lift in the main building so check in advance if you have any mobility issues.The room its self was very pleasantly decorated and had the most comfortable bed that I have ever slept in a hotel. Our room was in the basement so there was no view. To compensate however there was a set of Victorian doors leading out to a private garden that only had access from our room and the room next door. The bathroom was slightly dated but everything worked and there was always plenty of hot water available for a shower., no matter what time of dayThe room had a small writing desk and coffee table but unfortunately there was no kettle in the room to make a cuppa.The Reception and bar were open all night. The bar prices were comparable with those found in the the pubs and bars in the city.The Hotels location could not be more perfect. Just 2 minutes walk and you are in the middle of the Vanda Park and less than 10 minutes walk from the night life and shopping districts. far enough away to be peaceful but close enough to the city to be practicable.

If you want a good night's sleep while in Amsterdam but you still want to be within walking distance of all the fun, then the Hotel de Filosoof is a good choice for you.You don't have to be a philosopher to like this hotel - you just have to like hotels with charm and style.

Pros: We loved staying here it is so quiet and yet within easy access of all we wanted to see and do we partlicularly liked being so close to the vondelpark which is lovely. the staff were very helpful and friendly. i also loved the charecter of the place even the steep narrow winding stairs
Cons: We didn't manage to connect to the internet from our room but this wasn't a big problem as staff were again v helpful and there is a public access computer which we were able to use.
