 "Great location. Excellent price and friendly staff."
Stayed with 2 friends in a spacious quad room with a nice TV. Can't ask for a better location - just off Dam Square and right next door to the legendary Chipsy King. Highly recommended. Rooms were really quiet and curtains did an excellent job of keeping the room dark for that much needed lie in!

 "The Powel's and Overal's on tour"
This hotel is in a really fab place 1min walking for Dam Square and 1min to the Red Light District . rooms nice and clean, but pleasenot that they can smell of smoke. Lots of eating and drinking holes all over. but does pay to look around.

 "Hotel De Gerstekorrel"
This was a great hotel! It was clean and quiet, but our room wasn't facing the street, so I think that helped. It was an easy walk to the train station, Red Light District, just about anywhere in Amsterdam. It was a little annoying to have to pick up and drop off the room key whenever we left, but it wasn't that big of a deal. The reception was 24 hours. I felt safe and the room was a good value. I would stay here again!

the room was decent and with no view, but it was central and that was important.we've been asked to pay a depositse as well as %5 vat which we did not expect but we got the 50 euro back at the end of the stay.

 "OK but would not stay again....."
Be aware that the only Air Conditioning that this hotel offers is in the lobby. The result is having to leave your windows open in which case you will hear a lot of street noise. There is no parking or even termporary parking in front of the hotel so unloading luggage will be a significant issue. They do indeed have a valet service however it is not an onsite service, as a result you will have to find alternative parking until the valet can be called to take your car. However, the staff was very nice and helpful.

 "Good hotel in the center of the city"
Do not expect a 5 stars service in a 2 stars hotel, but for its 2 stars, the room was OK. We had a room on the third floor at the street side. Getting so high on those steep steps with my heavy luggage was almost a heroic thing to do, and our room was a bit noisy at night because its situation at the street side. But the beds were very comfortable, and the bath room, however tiny, was okay, too. I have been looking in vain for an electric power point for my razor. It was not comfortable to shave myself in the bedroom.The staff was very friendly and helpful, but I found it very strange some members of the staff did not speak Dutch, though Dutch is the official language of the Netherlands. I think it is a positive thing they speak English or any foreign language, for the many foreign tourists, but as a Dutch speaking Belgian I was very surprised not to be able to communicate with some of the staff in my own language.

 "Brilliant Hotel"
Brilliant location, Lovely helpful staff, Hotel is very clean. The only problem is the climb to the 4th floor! I wouldnt recomment this hotel to anyone with mobility problems due to all the steps but then most of amsterdams buildings/Museums/Bars are the same.But i will be booking this hotel for my next visit

 "Location is the only upside..."
On arrival we were told our room would be in another, unattended building a few doors down from the main reception building. The stairs are horrendous!!! Very steep and spiralling, I'm a 31 year old male in good shape but carrying the bags to the top floor was exhausting to say the least. If you're like me and travelling with the Mrs who likes to wear heels and get a bit tipsy AVOID at all costs!!When we got into the room the pillow cases and duvet cover were stained, the room was very dated, very small and looking rough, we were not happy at all, simply due to pre-booking and paying over £100 per night. We were told to use the phone and dial 9 if there were any problems... the phone didn't work!!We made our way back to reception to complain and were offered a room in the main building but again it was on the top floor. (There is NO lift in either building). The stairs were marginally easier to climb and the room was a little better.We had no towels on arrival and had to request them. The TV was tiny and not fixed on the wall appropriately to watch in bed. The bed had two single duvets rather than one double!!?? The shower/toilet area was tiny, with soap and toilet tissue dispensers worthy of a public toilet. The shower didn't get hot enough for me. My knees were pressed against the wall while taking a dump!! The walls are paper thin, everything from the landing and nearby rooms can be heard. Although the reception area and stairs looked very clean and smelled okay, the two rooms we seen were quite the opposite!! There is no tea/coffee facilities within the room, a coffee machine at reception costs €1.50 per cup and is not very nice at all. When going down to reception one morning I was greeted by a cat lying on the stairs!! We had to hand in our key every time we left the building, obviously previous guests have lost theirs, therefore trust in you with yours is lost too. DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE PICTURES SHOWN OF THIS PLACE, THE ONLY ACCURATE PHOTO IS OF THE RECEPTION!!!The only good things about this place; it's situated perfectly, it's right on top of everything and only a five minute walk from the central station. When you're outside you're literally two minutes away from coffee shops and Red Light District. The staff are well presented and friendly.If you're on a stag/hen party and using this place to sleep only then I suppose it would suffice. A group of young lads wanting to party all day and night would probably have no qualms with it,
