Hotel de Stern Amsterdam

Pretty much everything. the visa machine was not working, therefore i had to pay cash upon arrival, which i did not have the complete amount. my wife & i went out the next day after 11am and there were no staff around to pay, so as we were leaving the next morning, i would pay him then. we arrived back at the hotel at approximately midnight to find that we were locked out of the hotel because we hadn't paid! we had to ring the "night bell" and pay there & then in order to be let in. the standard of the accomodation, at best could be described as poor - i requested (if possible) a double bed, as my wife & i were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary - the room allocated was not big enough for a double bed - there were 2 x singles, 1 against a wall and 1 stuck in the window, which would not shut (therefore was open about 8 inches at the bottom) because it was painted stuck. the wardrobe had no doors on it, as they were leaning against one of the walls. when i slept in the "window bed", my feet were flat against one wall, whilst my head was simultaneously rubbing against the other wall. i appreciate that i am 6'7" tall, but that indicated the size of the room. the description stated "own private shower & bathroom" - this was not true as the shower & bathroom were shared with the other occupants of the floor at the end of the corridor. when we arrived at the hotel @ 1730 on the friday evening - our first thought was that we were not going to stay - but the fact that we would be charged 60 euro's and we didn't know anywhere else to stay (or even if we could get a room elsewhere) meant that we were forced to stay. it was not as the pictures on your website showed - indeed the room next door that we happened to look in when leaving was a thousand times better. after our first day we left to go sight-seeing, when we arrived back, nobody had been to our room, cleaned it, made the beds or anything. it was worse than a bedsit & a total disgrace.

The room is beyond basic, no tea facilities, a single quilt on a double bed and only hand towels. the less time spent in the room the better.

We were in room 22 v small shower/toilet outside room apart from that didn't spoil holiday

The shower floods the bathroom and didn't drain even after 24 hours. there was rubbish under the beds and behind the cupboards. there was a single bed spread for a double bed, making us freeze. extremely noisy from the clubs and trams (take ear plugs!) rooms stank of stale cigarette smoke and the stairs were very steep.

The hotel wouldnt accept payment on credit cards only cash. stairs were very steep and the light fitting fell on my head during the night.

It was not what we were expecting. the rooms are not as shown in the pictures.

Cleanliness, poor quality bathroom/shower room-water overflows to bedroom, tv does not work and all staff are not helpful for the problems.

We could not pay by credit card at the time of our business.

Owners could not understand english well, had alot of trouble getting reciept for payment, had to ask for clean sheets, toilet paper.room wasnt cleaned once in 3 days

The only negative this time was we couldn't leave our bags to collect later on when we booked out witch they normally let you do & as we didn't fly till 9pm it was abit of a ballache dragging them round
