Hotel Hortus is 15 minutes walk from Central Station. We are close to Artis Zoo, Rembrandt Square and the famous Waterloo square Fleamarkets.
How to reach the Hotel Hortus?From central station
Take TRAM 9 and get out at the 7th stop. Once you get out cross the street and turn RIGHT and walk back in the direction you just came. At the first street turn LEFT this is our street, and we are number 8 on the left.
You can also take the metro(underground),from central station you can take any metro. You must get out at the 2nd stop (WATERLOO PLEIN/ NIEUWE HERENGRACHT). Once you exit the metro turn RIGHT and follow the sign NIEUWE HERENGRACHT. Once you have come to the top walk towards the exit and turn RIGHT walk along the road until you come to another street (There is also a small park there). Turn LEFT this is also our street, walk along until you come to nr.8 (it will now be on the right).

Good budget hotel, about 10 mins walk from centre. good transport links. very good for "lads" weekend/holiday!

Hotel hortus is one of those hotels that once you stay at, youll go back again and again. the atmosphere in the hotel is one of the best ive found and the staff are extremely helpful, one bloke in particular went out of his way to help me find out about the tram times in the morning. The only negative thing i have to say is that breakfast is too early - trying to wake up for between 0800 and 1000 was one of the hardest things to do!Anonymous

1)staff was very friendly,polite and helpful.
2)good value for a place to sleep and rest for 110 euros we paid.
3)lovely simple breakfast with plenty to choose from,well organized,toaster at each table,bread,butter,jam,peanut butter,chocolate spread,boiled,or scrambled eggs,etc.
4)free coffee and tea all day.
5)tv in the room.
6)big sink with hot and cold water.
7)good bed and bed base.
8)safe inclusive.
1)tv too small plus fixed on the wall in a very limited position therefore not able to watch!
2)room very unclean.
3)room furnished very poorly.
4)unsecure window.
5)pillows not suitable for sleep.
6)staff could not guarantee safety of valuable items left in the room?!
7)much noise during night time until 4 am!
8)staff unable to rectify problems reported.
9)wireless internet does not work.

Staff really friendly and helped us out where to go. really chilled out place and great to get breakfast as well as tea n coffee in the daytime. only short walk to everything, only took a tram if knackered! no corfew so came and went as pleased. Only one shower between the flor but it was clean and we managed!vulinovich

Hotel hortus is in a great location - easy to walk/ride to anywhere central! it is very clean and the breakfast and snack machines made the stay even better! the staff are so helpful and friendly - next time we go back to amsterdam we will stay there again!Anonymous

Seeing the fact that it was a one star hotel when we booked it on the internet, we were expecting something very mediocre. but when we arrived at the hotel and saw our room and all the other facilities, like bathroon, toilet, flatscreen tv in our room, how clean the room was, we were very very excited. we instantly knew that we got exactly worth for our money and the next time i will be in amsterdam, i will definitely book this hotel again and also recommend it to others people i know. good job.My only negative point will be that in the toilet on the floor where rooms 8, 9 are, the small space that used to be a shower i think, need to be cemented. that will make the toilet look much more clean. the toilet was clean, but only that small space need redoing. thanks. hope this is taken on board.Pitt
