Room was basic but clean. hotel staff were friendly and helpful. loved the view over the canal.
Had trouble finding the hotel where we had to check in (different from one staying in) - never had to do that before. one single bed had broken base which is not good for posture. one sheet had a large hole in it.

The receptionist and all other staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. there was a basic breakfast provided which set you up well for the day. the area is beautiful, seconds away from wonderful canals and the longest market in amsterdam, albert cuypmarkt. there are many lovely coffee-shops close by also, similarly friendly and helpful staff. the selection of restaurants in the area is quite diverse, many tasty dishes on offer.
The prices quoted through easytobook were misleading, by about 100 euro. not so fond of easytobook.

When we arrived, we were greeted by extremely kind and helpful staff at hotel max, where we had to check in. the check in procedure was quick and easy. the hotel iris was litrally across the road (2-3min walk.) opposite the hotel iris (near the hotel max) was a lidl! therefore, if you need anything, water, coke etc, it is easily accessible. the hotel iris was located very close to one of the main squares, friedrien square, this square had many cafes, shops, resturants, and even a shisha cafe! furthermore, for those weed smokers, litrally down the road is an extremely nice cafe called 'ibiza', and the best thing is, that on that opposite corner is a really nice pizza place. all in all, it was a reasonably good hotel for the price, the location was perfect, and the tram service (which took you everywhere, and cost 1.60 euros single) was litrally down the road.
When we arrived, there were many problems when finding the hotel max to check in, as the directions given were very brief! when we checked in, the went to the room, we didnt have our hopes up (considering price) which was lucky. the room itself was like a hostel, four beds (one which was broken) a couple of plastic chairs and a old tv. the bathroom was extremely odd, it was located down the corridor, so you had to come out of your room, but this bathroom was your own. the bathroom had three steps, the third step was the bath, where you could not stand because of the height clearance. everytime someone had a shower water would go down the steps, making it dangerous. there was no staff at the hotel iris, and therefore, for any problems or inquiries you had to go to the hotel max.

Good quiet location
The shower overflowed and set the alarm off. staff were not pleased but overflow was due to poor drainage. we were made to feel it was our fault. however, more worryingly, staff did not evacuate the building.

While being fairly basic the accommodation was sufficient to satisfy our requirements.
The only warm things about breakfast were the tea, coffee and toast. the remainder consisted of cheese slices, chopped ham and pork, cartons of butter and jam.

No complaints, the room was a good size, big shower en suite, for a two star hotel the iris is good value for money. the owner run a sports bar nearby and as hotel guests he went out of his way to make us feel like valued customers.

Friendly staff, tv provided, well heated and lit room, good standard of cleanliness in bathroom. relaxing breakfast room with fair selection of breakfast.
Tram instructions would have been very useful from central station. hotel iris was locked up on our calling to check in (we were directed to the hotel max where we actually stayed but your map was not clear to understand as its orientation was not shown in the correct position)
