- the bed is of good quality, not those soft and uncomfortable bed i had come across of in the past
The reason why i chose this hotel is becos of the very positive feedback i got from the hotel reviews submitted by previous guests. unfortunately, my personal experience was way behind the standard quoted in the web. below are few examples of bad experience: - except the last day, all other staff i'd met in the first few days are either unhelpful or unfriendly. apart from the last day, none of the waiters/waitresses at the breakfast area will proactively ask me if i want tea or coffee; i've never experienced this kind of service. it's very normal for hotel waiters to ask if i want tea/coffee as soon as i sat down, right? in this hotel, i always need to wait for awhile and then, pro-actively ask for it though it's obvious that they know my presence (cos they had asked for my room number when i enter that bf area). another example is when we asked for some tourist information, the answer is always a short blunt one and without lack of smile (maybe they don't know how to smile). i never get the feeling that they are there to assist and be an embassdor of amsterdam or hotel roemer. - the room is small (though the bed is large); as a result, one side of the corridor is very narrow and i can't move around easily; for this price (over eur240 per night), i do expect a slightly more spacious room. - though my room rate is all inclusive (incl beverages in the fridge and whisky etc on the table), i dare not touch those spirts as it appeared to me that they have been in that room for quite awhile and i'm uncertain if they are clean or not. - the bathroom design appeared to be trendy but definitely not practical. there is no way i could have my shower without making the rest of the bathroom wet (part of the area outside the shower will be slightly flooded and the floor mat will be soaked with water making making it rather inconvenient for the next user/usage. - all in all, at this price, i would try another hotel (probably another one which is nearer to the centre) next time if i'll go back (but frankly, most people i met in amsterdam are not friendly, not sure if this have anything to my colour - i'm a hk chinese).

I have to admit, we were getting a bit nervous about what we might find when we arrived at hotel roemer after reading many negative reviews on other websites (showing up only to find that there was no room available at hotel roemer so people were sent around the corner to the sister hotel, vondel was the main complaint). our room was as expected. it was cleaned every day to our satisfaction. i found the front desk staff to be dependable. the inclusive breakfast was very good althought the dining room staff service was a bit uneven. some days we literally had to yell at the server to place an order or get coffee/tea. the location was excellent as it was in a quiet neighborhood.

Room was quiet and the view from the balcony was great. we had an all inclusive package (mini bar, alcohol in room, drinks in reception area was included in the rate) which turned out to be a great deal for us.
Not a major issue but one of the light bulbs in the room was never replaced. this could have been rectified by ringing reception but it did not really matter as there was enough lighting. would have liked bed linen to be changed more often, however, by not doing so, the hotel was being eco-friendly, which is good.

We booked an executive room only to be moved down the road to the sister hotel vondel. the room allocated did not have rain shower, jacuzzi, minibar, no tv in bathroom, no robes, coffee maker broke, no nibbles etc, etc. after discussion we were moved to a room that did have a jacuzzi and minibar. still no robes, nibbles etc. drinks were put on the evening bill which we had to have removed. then this had to be explained another two times that were on an inclusive package. they made us feel as though we were trying to cheat somebody. finally, on leaving they tried to charge us for 2 lunches that we did not have. there was never one sorry, or apology or explanation. totally disorganised from start to finish.

This is a fantastic hotel, the pure luxury of a extra large bed, jacuzzi, lcd tv in the room and the bedroom and the all inclusive price is excellent, which includes a great breakfast, minibar and drinks in the bar. the staff are very accomodating, polite and helpful. i have stayed at this hotel in may 2007 and because it was so fantastic i stayed there again in oct 08. this is the best hotel i have ever stayed in and i would totally recommend this hotel. this hotel is suitable for anyone any age.
The distance from dam square, it takes around 15 minutes to walk there.

Nice location, excellent breakfast, modern décor, friendly staff. small but trendy bathroom!
Room was very small, and very noisy as we were right next to the kitchen which woke us up from 6am every day! a bit dissapointing considering the price we paid. to be honest, i would have complained to easy to book and asked for compensation but i'd have ended up ruining our stay even more! way too small for the price.

A pleasant if expensive weekend retreat well located for the leidseplain and rijksmuseum/van gogh museum. liked the free drinks bit, however, quality of breakfast was average. overall: a triumph of style over substance

The hotel is comfortable and centrally located.
I am a business traveler and i arrived around 7am. i was told that check in was at 3pm and that no room would be available at that time. i left my baggage and went to a nearby museum and came back around 1:45pm. another guest came in at 2pm and was told that check in was at 3pm. to my dismay the guest that came in at 2pm was given keys to her room before i was after having flown all night and waited a substantial amount of time. when i complained i was given three different replys by the same staff person. 1) it was just a coincidence 2) she had a different room than i did 3) she came to the desk to ask and it is just now 3pm! less than 15 min. after being in my room i was disturbed by a staff member wanting to replenish the mini bar. the last thing that was unsettling was that i had requested a wake up call at 6am and i did not get one. luckily, i woke up on my own, but this could have been a major issue since i needed to go to airport for an international flight at 10:00am. if one were to look at these issues independently they may seem minor, but combined it seemed not to fit the image of the boutique 5 star hotel. the only way i would consider staying at hotel roemer again is if i can arrive at or after 3pm. a couple of years ago i stayed at the meridian hotel and also arrived at around 7am. they also had a check in of 3pm, however at 10:45am i was given a room because they had a guest to check out. i got the impression from roemer that the room availability did not factor in as important as their check in policy and thus it is really not a good option for a business traveler in route.
