 "Stay away"
This must have been the worst place I've ever stayed in... or perhaps I was just unlucky. The room was disgusting, small, dirty walls with paint coming off, dirty old cushions, no hairdryer, to kettle, not mentioning TV (but that was my least worry), bin in the bathroom was replace with an old food container. Very basic breakfast consisted of slices of bread (not even toasted!), a slice of ham and a slice of cheese, super hard boiled egg, some jam and coffee. Coffee was good. The location was lovely (although not close to the station), but I'm sure they are other places in equally great locations that offer better value for money. This felt like staying in a poor hostel for the price of hotel.

"very satisfied. just what we wanted"
Very nice place.good location. Nothing wrong with the hotel at all.
Only thing easy to book do not quote the total IN FULL so the 5% tax to add was a surprise to us and some other guests, who also queried it.

 "Good location, bit shabby"
Really good location, my bed was small the room was shabby, needs painting much like the rest of the hotel. Nice friendly staff, breakfast was sort of ok, cheap bread and a slice of cheese and some jam.

Very nice, cozy hotel in the best area of Amsterdam, two steps from Dam square, the Anne Frank house, Central station. Lovely rooms, staff, Breakfast. Good sized rooms with individual heating. Wifi in the rooms. I recommend!

 "Very good location"
We travelled with friends, they stayed in a nice room in the main building. Unfortunately, our room was located at the third floor in the dependance and was quite uncomfortable, the bathroom was very little and the stairs were really narrow.

"Does what it says on the can"
I was looking for a reasonably priced hotel in a good location for visiting Amsterdam with a group of male friends. I was pleased to find that the Hotel van Onna fitted the bill exactly.

The Hotel is probably best described as basic, but was very clean. The location perfect. The staff were likeable and very helpful.

Can't fault it other than one small incident. The hotel puts a 5% surcharge onto the bill if paying by Credit Card. As far as I'm aware this wasn't made clear to me at the time of booking so I was 'caught out'. Just a little irritating.

 "Nice and clean hotel"
I had a wonderful stay there just before Christmas. I had asked for a quiet room and was upgraded from a single room to a double room without additional charge. Can't say if the single room is as good. The service was very good. I was greeted with a warm smile and offered breakfast although I hadn't paid for it. The room I got, number 65, was a very quiet one with just the essentials. The paint and floor are a bit worn out but that wasn't a bother at all. The room, and hotel in general, was very clean. The bed is done everyday. It is located about 10 minutes walk from Dam Square and in a very beautiful neighbourhood. I really enjoyed my stay.

 "Excellent stay!"
Me and a friend stayed here for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, such a nice city. Van Onna is a lovely hotel and the people are very helpful. It's a very basic hotel but has everything you need! Would definitely stay again.

15 minute walk from Dam Square as well which is very handy.

 "A few thoughts"
The breakfasts have always been very good over the many times I stayed at this hotel but the new owners changed a few things regarding the breakfast such as the ham, cheese and coffee all of which were inferior. Cost-cutting such as this will be noticed by customers who frequented the hotel in the past. The new management could also be a little more courteous to its customers.

"No frills, but clean and comfortable"
A one star hotel, so don't expect fancy décor and a swimming pool. Very central for the sights, good hot showers, comfortable beds, room servicing every day and, most importantly, everything is clean!

 "Nice place, god location"
Nice location, very close to Anne Franks house.
The neighborhood is pleasant with a lot of restaurants and pubs.
Clean rooms and very pleasant staff.
Good breakfast,
I wonder why it only have 1 star???

"Pretty good for one star hotel"
I didn't even expect Van Onna to be that good. The only minus: if you're a light sleeper, like me, the Westerkerk two blocks away will keep you up all night, as its bells play a tune every 15 minutes!

 "good value"
A really great location in the old part of town right on one of the canals close to eateries and a number of venues. Also close to trams that take you to most parts of the city. Lovely continental breakfast. Rooms are basic but meet all needs

 "Good location."
Located in a nice part of the city Jordan region and close to most attractions ie Anne Frank, Red Light district and not to far to walk to the art museums, only 20 minutes or so. Room was a bit small but you kind of expect that in a built up city like Amsterdam. Room could have done with a few shelves or something, especially in the bathroom as there was nowhere to hang anything so we had to place everything on the floor.

 "Big disappointment"
Owner forgot to let us know about the major construction going on in front of the hotel. Work started 6:30 AM. Also our bed was squeaking really loud every time someone moved so we barely got any sleep

Situated in the fascinating Jordaan area, Hotel van Onna Amsterdam is close to all the city centre attractions whilst also enjoying the blissful tranquility of a canalside location. The nearest attractions are Anne Frank House, Westerkerk and Amsterdam Tulip Museum, all a 5-minute walk away. The Jordaan is a different world from the stampeding tourists and chain stores of Kalverstraat, and is a well-preserved example of a traditional Dutch neighbourhood. Convenient tram transportation is available 5 minutes on foot away, and Dam Square and Royal Palace are a 10-minute walk to the east.

Three beautiful canal houses comprise van Onna Hotel. The more modern central structure holds the main entrance of the hotel and is flanked by a traditional canal house from the mid-17th century and a renovated old warehouse. The original beams are visible in the breakfast room. Complimentary wireless Internet access is available throughout the hotel.

Hotel van Onna Amsterdam has a total of 41 rooms, each with en-suite bathroom facilities. Decor is charmingly simple, warm and functional, avoiding ostentation in true Dutch style. Also true to Dutch form, the rooms are spotlessly clean and neatly arranged. All rooms at the front of the building enjoy a beautiful canal view, whilst all rooms on the rear side enjoy extra tranquility away from the street.
