Leidseplein Amsterdam

Originally, Leidseplein was a wagon park built in the seventeenth century in Amsterdam for people to leave their wagons before entering the city. Now, it is a hustling tram center and station for night-time entertainment. The trendy Leidseplein is best known for its night-life. Theatres, cafes, restaurants, casinos and cinemas adorn the area. Street performers are often prevalent in this part of the city. Twenty-four hours a day, the Leidseplein is full of mimes, jugglers, musicians, and extravagant acts such as fire-eaters and live statues. Unique theatres, such as the Boom Chicago, offer many different comedy acts; some improv, some not, but audience participation is encouraged. Many party-going tourists will find that they spend their nights drinking at the many bars, clubs, and discos in this part of town. If you find yourself exhausted and in the middle of Leidseplein, stop for a sit and people watch. There are dozens and dozens of restaurants and any cuisine imaginable in this busy section of Amsterdam. Visitors looking to enjoy the architecture may want to detour by the beautiful Municipal Theatre. Travelers looking to sightsee, hang out, or just have a good time without spending tons of money will find Leidseplein to be right up their alley.
