The Portuguese Synagogue is a 17th century Sephardic synagogue, close to Waterlooplein in Amsterdam, constructed under architect Elias Bouwman. The Synagogue is built on wooden piles and surrounded by low buildings, in which the winter synagogue, the rabbinate, offices and archives can be found, as well as the famous Ets Haim library.

Despite several restorations, the Synagogue kept its original character. The large building reflects the wealth of the Sephardic community in Amsterdam. The Portuguese Synagogue is located across the road from the Jewish Historical Museum and close to the Waterlooplein Market, the Stopera, Rembrandtplein and Amsterdam city centre.
