Description
NH Barbizon Palace is located opposite Amsterdam’s Central Station. The hotel is – amongst other things – composed of nineteen 17th century houses and a 15th century chapel. The lobby is quite impressive with its high ceilings and marble pillars. Culinary refinement can be enjoyed at restaurant ‘Vermeer’, which has been granted several international awards.

From the hotel you will reach the Anne Frank House in ten minutes. The Dam square is five walking minutes away whereas the Van Gogh Museum and the Heineken Breweries can be reach by tram in 15 minutes. *How do I get to the NH Barbizon Hotel by public transport? :

1) From SCHIPHOL AIRPORT: Every 20 minutes there is a train running from the Airport to Central Station. When you arrive at the airport and you reach the central hall there is a big sign with the train information. The trains to the Central station are running from 05:40 AM to 00:30 AM (go to step 2)

2) From CENTRAL STATION: You dont have take the tram, you can walk to the hotel +/- 5 min. the trams in Amsterdam are running normaly from: 07:00 AM to 01:00 AM

Reception staff pleasant & helpful. good location for airport-city link.
Room was not clean (room 341, so not the basic room) - very poor. dust & debris had not been not vacuumed from corners of room. mattress cover disgusting - full of pubic & head hairs from other guests. previous guest's underpants hanging off balcony. called housekeeping re poor state of bed & dirty carpet & i had a very begrudging response. a superficial room vacuuming was undertaken & it appeared that a new matress cover was supplied - this still had hairs embedded. bathroom - just one bath towel per person & tea making equipment was in the bathroom - not very nice.

The location of this hotel is excellent, right across from the central station. the staff were always very helpful and friendly
There is no way this is a 5* star hotel - the rooms were acceptable but nothing special, the furniture was very dated, there were marks on the walls and the bathroom door was all cracked. it is very overpriced even on a special offer so i would definitely not there stay again

Location was excellent situated opposite the central station, and within a few minutes walk from the attractions of the red light district
25 euros for breakfast put us off but it was 5 star after all

The staff and especially the concierge services was outstanding.
We had some issues about our suite # 345, which had some issues. the woman that called me, offered to change our room for an otherone, but we declined her offer do the fact that we would be leaving the next day at 6:30 am. we were given a chit for the buffet breakfast for our troubles, but we couldn't use it because we we being picked up for trip to the airport in order to catch out flight. i gave the clerk a note that thanked the hotel for its show of generosity, but asked to have our billed reduced for the value of the two breakfasts, which was denied. i surely think that i was entitled to the $ 50.00 euro credit and am asking to have you credit my amex plat bc with this money. please respond to my request and ask you to e-mail your reply to me.

A beautiful, spacious room with good views, in an impressive building. helpful staff and comfortable bed.
Toiletries were surprisingly poor - their shampoo and hair conditioner were dreadful. but this is only a small criticism - these things are easily dealt with.

The rooms were lovely and the staff very helful
The only negetive was having to pay a deposit for the rooms to cover any room service etc upfront. there was no mention of this at time of booking so it caused a few problems

Yes the service regarding payment was totally inept. i had prepaid the stay for my sons xmas present but he had to pay him self leaving him short on cash as all you could say was "it was a mistake" when i had to phone and check what had happened

It was a nice clean room with basic facilities
Room was very cold, sold as 5* but fell well short of this standard so would be expensive for what it is. sauna was 12euro per person for example.

The nh barbizon palace has a beautiful reception area and fantastic staff members who are always polite and willing.
My negatives unfortunately outway the positives.... 1) expensive for the type of room you get. i would much rather stay at the marriot next time. 2) poor coffee making facilities 3) poor hairdryer in the room 4) bad location for first time visitors (bordering the red light district and noisey) 5) expensive meals at the restuarant and room service 6) poor quality products (shampoo and shower gel) for the price and image of the hotel 7) generally the rooms and decor (exclusing the reception area) are dated.
