NH Barbizon Palace is located opposite Amsterdam’s Central Station. The hotel is – amongst other things – composed of nineteen 17th century houses and a 15th century chapel. Location is excellent and rooms are clean. if you book a double or twin they are spacious enough.
If you happen to book a single room some can be like broom 'cupboards' and dark. cleaning staff and reception are very friendly and forthcoming. concierge staff were a bit aloof eg offering no help to get a taxi.Anonymous

Staff was excellent. rooms are quiet. i will continue to use this hotel.On a previous visit, with my partner, we were surprised to enter the elevator and find dog droppings on the floor. people should not bring animals into the hotel, or else animal-bringers should be limited to certain rooms not serviced by the elevator. my most recent visit, i had an internal room. this was less pleasant and i should have been notified and given a choice of another room.fernyhough

The staff tried to be helpful and were not rude when i complained and offered a room in their other hotel with complementary transport to check and to send the luggageThe air conditioners only go down 3 degrees below the ambient temperatue which in the room was at 23.8 degrees. this was too hot for sleeping at night. the pillows were lumpy and needed to be disposed of. the mattress was an old type of spring one and the springs could easily be felt as it lacked a pillow or cushioning on top. the mattress also was not firm and even although i am ony 49kgs it sagged in the middle. their second hotel had similar mattresses although slightly newer, and the air cons were also difficult to control the temperature.Anonymous

Reception staff pleasant & helpful. good location for airport-city link.Room was not clean (room 341, so not the basic room) - very poor. dust & debris had not been not vacuumed from corners of room. mattress cover disgusting - full of pubic & head hairs from other guests. previous guest's underpants hanging off balcony. called housekeeping re poor state of bed & dirty carpet & i had a very begrudging response. a superficial room vacuuming was undertaken & it appeared that a new matress cover was supplied - this still had hairs embedded. bathroom - just one bath towel per person & tea making equipment was in the bathroom - not very nice.elsegood

The location of this hotel is excellent, right across from the central station. the staff were always very helpful and friendlyThere is no way this is a 5* star hotel - the rooms were acceptable but nothing special, the furniture was very dated, there were marks on the walls and the bathroom door was all cracked. it is very overpriced even on a special offer so i would definitely not there stay again
