On the positive side: location and excelent friendly, helpful staff who went out of their way to answer customers' various needs, from mobile phone problems to printing documents, to everything else.On the negative side: the premises. Old, worn out, slightly depressing rooms and public areas. In my room there were no curtains, just the plastic protection for the sun, there were holes in the bed spreads, doors and walls badly scratched, a tv from the 80's, and a general sense of carelessness. Never felt I was in a 4 star hotel, never felt the history behind it. It was more like an old, decadent, over-priced 3 star hotel.

 "Congress in Amsterdam"
Hotel in the heart of Amsterdam in front of a channel. Very well comunicated to the RAI and Central Station with tram number 4. Single rooms are really little with no space. It needs a renowal, very old hotel.

 "A disappointing stay"
I booked a room via internet. As I was alone, I received a single bedroom with a (relatively small) mattress that was so soft that I almost fell out of the bed twice. The room had no A/C (it was very hot the first of my 2-day stay); a table fan was provided. No assistance with luggage. The hotel is in serious need of renovation. I faced major problems with my smoking/non-smoking request. The location is excellent and the (few) staff were friendly. Still, never again.

 "Good location"
Good location in the centre but hotel could do with a little TLC. A bit tatty round the edges and room window didn't open so hot at night. But can't fault the service. Staff were great with local tips and help when needed. Breakfast expensive (even staff acknowledged this) so found local place nearby which was great and reasonable.

 "A big dissapointment"
It was my third and last stop over in NH Doelen. Two previous stays were very pleasant, but they happened quite few years ago. I specifically booked NH Doelen for this trip without even looking at other options and all to my big disappointment. I would give this hotel a maximum of two stars in its present state. I can only say two positive things about it - location and personnel. The hotel is in desperate need of a major renovation and refurbishment. The room I stayed in this time was very small, with old dirty carpet, broken furniture, old bad quality bedding, mouldy bathroom and peeling off wallpaper.

 "4* should be at a higher level"
Very nice personell. Windows almost no sound isolation. Small bathroom. One of our travellers did not appear before 6pm >room not available anymore, alternative horel 300€ per night!!!! That did not make us feel booking with nh hotel group in Amsterdam again...

 "April in the Dam"
I specifically asked to pay cash on arrival instead half the rooms 2 out of 4 were charged to my card. we did get an upgrade for 3 of the 4 rooms but I felt it should have been 4 of 4. Trying to sort the card thing they talked more between themselves and on the phone in dutch leaving me there to stew. Checking out got messy when you had two rooms to pay up and 4 rooms to pay city tax. Left feeling it was made more complicated than it should have been. A lot of eeeehhhs and uuuhhhmmmms at reception. My room wasnt bad at all. But the lads who didnt get the upgrade had a bad one.

 "Central but noisy"
A lovely grand hotel right on the canal, very close to the bars and flower market. A bit dated, but clean and comfortable. Principal issue is noise from outside through the night from rowdy revellers.

 "Great Location"
The hotel is in a great spot. The receptionist was excellent. We stayed in the suite at the top which has great views and the bath was excellent. The decor is a bit jaded and the windows are in desperate need of replacing. I also left my phone charger in the room and when I called back to enquire about, it had disappeared!!

 "Amsterdam weekend"
Awesome hotel 5 minute walk from the main square full of bars and clubs alternatively located close to the train station 15 minute walk max. Rooms were very clean and well presented with beautiful views of the canals. Will be staying here again next year =)
