Sharm Hotel Amsterdam    

A shabby little hotel offering poor value - the surly staff try to rip you off from the minute you're there with a 5% charge if you try and pay by credit card and €20 cash 'deposit' for your room key which you can't get back if you leave early like we did because there is no one manning reception - the clock radio was broken , the room safe was broken and there was no soap in the bathroom - avoid ...

We stayed in this hotel 2 nights. First night had to change room as upstairs shower's waste water was running all the way into our bathroom from ceiling just on the side of spot light ! We paid €240 for 2 night in this hotel which had about 100 stairs from the main door to reception, those stairs were so dip wow impossible to climb!

Entry was difficult especially with suitcases due to extremely long steep stairs, Room was extremely tiny with barely enough room to stand beside the bed. Bathroom also had no standing room at all. It was not as stated on the website.

Very friendly service, location was very central... Easy acess to most places by fiot if not tram stops are a 2 minute walk away. Rooms were good for a short stay, not the most luxurious but good if you are looking for something basic. We felt safe in our hotel and staff were more than helpful. The only negative thing to be said is the amount of STAIRS. A set before you get to reception, a set before the first floor and a set before the second. A little inconvenient if you are travelling heavy yet we got used to them after a day or so. Overall i would recommend for a group of friends travelling.

Hotel in good central position. Very steep stairs from entrance leading up to a non reception area. Reception consisted of a small room with mess everywhere although hotel was in state of refurbishment. Our room had recently been refurbished but was like a box and so small that we did not have any room for both of us to move around. One of us had to move onto the bed whilst the other could move around the rest of the area. Only wardrobe was a small cupboard on wall that faced inwards so only way of access was by kneeling on the bed. My wife managed a short hot shower in the morning but hot water had been exhaused by the time it was my turn so had to have a cold wash in the tiny sink. No soap or shower gel supplied and no tea/coffee facilities. (There would have been no room for it anyway). Staff were reasonably helpful but kept asking for payment for the room as soon as we arrived. When I tried to pay with credit/debit card the machine would not work and I was then asked to withdraw cash to pay the bill. It did not entirely spoil our long weekend in Amsterdam but did not provide relaxed accommodation and we would not return.

Cons: Rooms were pretty small

Pros: It was a very basic and easy place to stay. i loved the location because it was close enough to the square to be lively, but it also got you away from a lot of the craziness of the city. everything was straightforward and there were no shocks.
Cons: There was sperm on the cabinet next to the bet that hadn't been cleaned off. gross.
