The College hotel was "Average" - every positive was swiftly followed by a counter balancing negative & vice versa.Reception staff efficient - bar / wait staff slow & confused.Room dusty, stuffy - bathroom & shower great. Both rooms had light bulbs missing.Location good for the museums - long walk / or tram ride to the city center.Hotel wifi available for I-phone not for I-pad or camera.

 "Weekend break in Amsterdam"
Wonderful hotel. Many of the staff are students but you would never have known that they were not seasoned professionals, service was excellent. A little out of the centre but if you wanted a quieter experience in Amsterdam and didn't mind walking this was a nice area to stay in with lots of restaurants and bars. Lovely peaceful hotel with the added bonus of a very reasonable priced hotel bar.

Pros: This hotel was amazing, we arrived at 10 am and was allowed to check in. the room we were placed in was a bit noisy (because of trams and buses) so they moved us with no fuss.

"Room and especially corridors very dark"
Pros: Room and especially corridors very dark. great shower. lovely bedding.
Cons: Nothing negative at all other than the lighting--not good for reading. didn't like the little beaded lampshades--did not work at all with the rest of the interior design.

 "Quiet location, nicely designed hotel"
Pros: Quiet location, nicely designed hotel
Cons: Room supposed to be luxury double but in converted room space so quite small. no opening windows in a smoking room, blinds broken, no bottle opener or corkscrew in mini-bar, do not disturb sign meant nothing as cleaners still knocked

Weekend break in Amsterdam

Many of Amsterdam's key attractions are easily reached from The College Hotel Amsterdam, with the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, Diamond Factory and the city centre all within four kilometres of the premises. The hotel was originally built in 1894 as a school and is a listed historical building of Amsterdam. The similarities between the famous Rijksmuseum, which was built in the same period, and the Amsterdam College Hotel are easy to see.

The hotel is designed to pay homage to the past, while boasting modern facilities and contemporary design touches. The result is a combination of high-quality luxury standards in a classical environment. As a former school, the building exudes a sense of history that is reflected in high ceilings, huge fireplaces and stretching staircases. The College Hotel in Amsterdam now provides an elegant and relaxing ambiance.

The scholarly history extends across the entire hotel site; even the free-standing restaurant is located in the school’s former gymnasium. At the hotel restaurant, modern Dutch fare is served in a relaxed setting with an open kitchen. Before or after a meal, guests can unwind with a coffee in the lobby lounge or enjoy a cocktail in the College Bar. The terrace at The College Hotel Amsterdam is voted to be the 44th best terrace of Holland. Room service is available around the clock, and the hotel also offers babysitting services, use of a meeting room, and an on-site gift shop.
