The Bosbaan is a rowing lake located in Amsterdam's woods in Amstelveen, near Amsterdam. The Bosbaan (literal translation: Woods Course) is the world's oldest artificial rowing course. The Bosbaan is 2200 metres long, 118 metres wide and features 8 lanes. The Bosbaan is the home of the the Olympic Training Centre for the national rowing association (KNRB) and the Vrije Universiteit student rowing club R.S.V.U. 'Okeanos'. It lies in parallel with the approach to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol's runway 09/27, at approx 2 kilometres distance.
The course was built in 1936 following an employment project and first had 5 lanes only, but it was widened to 6 lanes from 1954 as Amsterdam was the host of the European Rowing Championships. The area surrounding the Bosbaan is an excellent place to find hotels and nice places to eat .
