Waterloo Square Details
Waterloo Square Amsterdam is located in the center of the city, very near to the Amstel River. The 1815 Battle of Waterloo is where the square got its name, and the area was created when the Houtgracht and the Leprozengracht canals were built. Waterloo Square is a very interesting place to visit, for there is a huge flea market there every day. The flea market is open every day of the week except for Sunday. Visitors will discover some 300 plus stalls that are selling everything from clothing and shoes to records and stamps.
When you are done shopping at the flea market, you will find several other very popular tourist attractions near Waterloo Square. The Rembrandt House Museum, the Jewish Historical Museum, the Portugese Synagogue, and the Magere Brug and Blauwbrug bridges that pass across the Amstel River are all quite interesting, and well worth a visit.
