      Amsterdam South is a part of Amsterdam located south of the canal. The western boundary is formed by the Vondelpark and Schinkel. The eastern boundary is Amstel. The southern boundary is the Kalfjeslaan. It is Amsterdam's most expensive area, it has the highest income per household and the lowest unemployment rate in Amsterdam. One of its most famous areas, because of its many restaurants and cafes, is the "Pijp".

      The construction of the southern urban expansion began in the last quarter of the 19th century with the construction of the Pijp, and near the National Museum (Museum Quarter) and the Willemspark district. This area was also known as Old South. It was finished in its final and current version in April 2010.
