If you want to stay in the city, try to book a hotel in Rotterdam close to the Euromast. This popular attraction is one of the most renowned symbols of the city, and it is also one of the tallest structures in the Netherlands; its tower reaches up 185m (607'). This was not the original design of the architect - the tower constructed by Maaskant rose only 110m (361') in 1960. It was meant to show off the wonders of the Floriade - an agricultural and horticultural showcase. The Euromast almost did not get to be tall at all, as the mayor at the time said there was not enough money to create the building, let alone the tall tower. Rich Rotterdam citizens decide to pitch in, however, and the project went ahead.

In 1970, the Euromast extended its height. With the addition of the Space Tower, the Euromast once again became the tallest structure, after adding a restaurant and observation platform at an additional 100'. You could also take a rotating elevator to the mast top from the deck. From either vantage point, you can see a panoramic view of the port and the city. If you are daring enough, you can ignore the elevator and repel down from the roof. Now, that is a tale to talk about in the dining room of your comfy discount hotel in Rotterdam within sight of the Euromast.
