Het Schielandshuis is home to the History Museum (Historisch Museum). This Dutch Neo-Classical mansion is a remnant from the 17th century. It was built between 1662-1665 for the Schieland family, and although it burned down in 1864, the façade survived. The Schieland Water Board owned it until turning it over to house the museum.
The small Historisch Museum features a collection of paintings as well as dolls’ houses. It provides the public with the opportunity to view period rooms, as the interior of the building is in both the Baroque and Rococo styles, which reflect and represent the houses in the area. The rooms reveal the culture of the period. Be sure to spend time among the clothing exhibitions, which provide you with a glimpse of fashion and daily wear from the 18th century to the present. After seeing the museum, tour around the elegantly kept garden. Sit down and have something to drink - the museum’s café can provide you with something cool before you leave for your room in a friendly discount hotel near Het Schielandhuis in Rotterdam.
